Stellar Blade is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5, and its demo alone has already captivated players. This game immerses us in a post-apocalyptic universe for an explosive Souls-like. Its technique has been talked about as much, as much for its general quality, as for the relief modeling of the heroine, Eve. Are we in the presence of the enjoyable and relaxing title that was missing from our gamer lives? One thing is for sure, in video games, the Korean seems to be taking the same path as its series.
The Storyline of Stellar Blade A Korean Space Opera
In Stellar Blade, players enter a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is on the brink of extinction. You play as Eve, a warrior with exceptional powers, determined to save the remains of her world. The adventure takes place in Xion, the last citadel of humanity, where mysteries and dangers abound around every corner. The Corruptors are at the heart of the conflict that is ravaging the planet.
These adversaries are not only diverse in terms of power and appearance. They are linked to the destruction and corruption of the environment. Which transforms once-prosperous areas into places of desolation. Eve, the main character that the player embodies, is tasked with fighting against these forces. Her second mission is to discover the origin of their evil power. As the story progresses, she uncovers the secrets of their rise. Which leads her to seek ways to restore balance to her war-torn world.
The game offers a rich narrative, with neat cutscenes and thoughtful dialogues. The complexity of Eve’s story is rich in revelations and dramatic twists. Which adds an emotional dimension that is not overplayed. The relationships between the characters as well as the dialogues are very Korean and that is also what pleases.
However, despite a captivating plot, the nuances of the story can quickly get lost in the fast-paced action sequences. Nevertheless, the whole remains harmonious and fans of complex stories will find what they are looking for.
The gameplay Demanding yet delightful.
Stellar Blade stands out for its combat system that requires thought, strategy, and of course reflexes. The fights combine quick attacks, dodges, and counterattacks. This fluid system values timing but also requires some time before you can fully control it.
Eve has a wide range of moves and special abilities, which are customizable and upgradeable throughout the game. The environments, especially the city of Xion, are designed to encourage exploration and strategic use of space in combat.
Like climbing structures to discover alternate paths or solving environmental puzzles to unlock new areas. Levels are full of secret passages and interactive elements.
The fights are enjoyable, and if the neophytes can be satisfied with the basics. The more technical ones will spend hours multiplying the combo variations. On the other hand, the secondary missions are not always captivating. A certain repetitiveness can set in if you play continuously.
Stellar Blade Technique Simply Enjoyable
Stellar Blade’s graphics maximize the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 5. The representation of the city of Xion, the epicenter of the game, is particularly meticulous. Each building, street, and element of the landscape is designed to illustrate a beautiful world. But one that is also ravaged by prolonged conflicts.
Dynamic lighting effects and realistic textures create an ever deeper immersion. The monsters also benefit from this, with a creative madness in horror and delectable aggression.
The highlight of the 3D modeling is of course Eve and the other protagonists. The animation is remarkable for its fluidity and precision, especially for the combat movements of the protagonist, Eve. This also applies to the hip swing, which is of course exaggerated, and the bounce of the fleshy parts of the human anatomy.
In action, every attack, parry, and special move is performed in a way that reflects the character’s agility and strength. Characters’ facial expressions and body animations effectively convey emotions and intentions during dialogues and interactions.
The soundtrack shifts from epic compositions to more subtle and melancholic tones during the exploration phases. The sound effects carefully complement Xion’s environment and atmosphere.
Aside Let the creators create and the players decide.
A lot of criticism on social media and in the video game press about Stellar Blade, especially the sexualization of Eve. We don’t understand this desire to impose one’s own cultural biases, often minority, on different cultures. If Korean series are a hit, it’s also because they don’t respect Western standards, more or less intelligent. Eve is extremely sexy; the modeling of her lower back has been so carefully done that it can become hypnotic. As in the late Dead or Alive, martial firmness meets the softness linked to feminine phantasmagoria.
A very Korean style that hits the mark and surely explains the success. As for the supposed sexism, we don’t think that a powerful video game heroine should simply imitate male stereotypes to assert herself. Sony seems to be holding firm, especially in the face of the title’s success. It censored a few tags with dubious meaning in certain militant universes and modified a few outfits to make them less sexy. Minor concessions by the development studio which claims not to want to change anything in the artistic direction and character design. Our opinion is simple: if this bothers you, the video game offering is rich enough to avoid Stellar Blade. If video games are indeed the 9th art, then who are we to want to control the creation of artists?
